Very Interesting Approach to a "Travel Guide"
This application takes a completely different approach from a traditional published travel guide or even a travel app. Instead of a systematic, and often incomplete list of hotels, restaurants and popular tourist destinations, World Explorer provides a list of "places of interest" listed in Wikipedia associated with the destination you choose. Not only do you see the usual tourist destinations the list also includes some more obscure locations that might not turn up in traditional travel guides but might still be places that are very important to undertsanding that community. This works thanks to the breadth of Wikipedia.
The list of places of interest can be ordered alphbetically, by distance or by user rating. Theres a Google Map window of the specific place youre viewing and a window with the Wikipedia article. You can get a Stephanie Hawking computer voice to read some of the articles to you. Theres a listing of current local time and weather.
The app is simply assembling already-existing information but it does it well. A neat travel tool.
